Charles Tsai is a media producer and social innovator working on multiple fronts to advance a new story of learning and education. He helps students and teachers understand the need for “maker education” and how to cultivate a “maker mindset” in learners both inside and outside the mainstream school system. Charles produced the viral video, If students designed their own schools, a documentary about a radical approach to self-directed learning.
In the last ten years, Charles has mentored hundreds of young social innovators through Ashoka, the world’s largest network of social entrepreneurs, and his own Vancouver-based charity, Social Creatives. He has also developed social innovation tools for Ashoka, the World Bank, and Adobe’s Youth Voices. With those tools, he regularly facilitates workshops and bootcamps for schools, community organizations, and foundations.
Before venturing into social innovation, Charles worked as a reporter and producer for CNN at its Atlanta headquarters.
