Matt Brocchini is a startup founder, executive, and advisor with a track record of building high-growth ventures from the ground up. He was a founder or early executive at six startups, with one IPO and two acquisitions, and is an experienced non-profit leader. He is best known as the founder of Tinkering Labs, an award-winning startup that pioneered a new category of open-ended, project-based STEM kits for children. Matt was CEO of Tinkering Labs from its launch in 2015 to its acquisition by a leading global provider of educational tools and materials in 2024.
He is also the co-author of the book The Innovator’s Secret Formula, and co-developer of the Quantitative Product-Market Fit framework—an evidence-based method for identifying and accelerating product-market alignment.
Matt specializes in helping teams bridge the gap between early traction and scalable success. He works closely with founders and leadership teams to align product, market, and organizational strategy—enabling companies to scale without losing the core insight that gave them their initial momentum. His approach combines structured frameworks with deep operational experience, supporting companies as they navigate pivotal inflection points in growth.
In addition to his work in the private sector, Matt has a long-standing commitment to hands-on learning and innovation in education. He is a founding board member of the Institute for Applied Tinkering, and served for over 15 years as board chair of Brightworks School and Tinkering School, two nonprofit initiatives that promote creativity, autonomy, and technical fluency through project-based learning.
Matt holds degrees in Philosophy and Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and brings an interdisciplinary perspective to every challenge—blending systems thinking, leadership development, and market insight to help mission-driven teams grow with clarity and purpose.
